Wolgang Amadeus Mozart
Mass in C Minor, K. 427
Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major

Mozart’s Mass in C Minor was unfinished in his lifetime, yet remains one of the greatest mass settings in classical music. Initiated as a vow to honor his wedding with Constanze, the work is suffused with brilliant exuberance and bravura solos including the deeply tender and intimate soprano aria “Et incarnatus est.” Mozart honors Bach with lively writing for double chorus, and the orchestra reinforces the drama throughout. This program begins with Mozart’s sublime Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major performed by the 2010 winner of the Claudette Sorel Medallion, a prize awarded by the Sorel Foundation, which supports the careers of women in music.
